Why would you want to do that? People use search phrases to find sites. It would be impossible to think of all the phrases people use to find your site, and if you concentrate on only a few, then you are missing a lot of traffic.
In most cases, if you search a search engine with only one search word, you will not appear in the first 200 results, let alone the first 30. Don't concentrate on trying to place well with one word or even phrases. If you can think of a common phrase for your particular theme then odds are that all of your competitors have already thought of it.
We used a log analyzer that goes through the Crown Jewel's log file and then prints a report on the search word visitors typed in to find the Crown Jewels website. Look at this Keywords Report.
It would be impossible to come up with all the keyword combinations or search phrases used to search the search engines with these programs. PLUS notice that for each search engine, the key search phrases that are there are very different.
If you rely on specific words or search phrases then you will have a dead web site.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!
If you like to have the pretty graphics on your pages, then by all means waste your time and apply for them. All they will do is provide a link away from your site, to the award site. These award sites won't even give you a reciprocal link in return. It does your visitors no good and it just makes your pages load slower.

Marketing on the Web is like marketing in the real world.
Spend your time marketing your site exactly like any real world business. Marketing on the Internet is the same as it is anywhere else. The only difference is the form of communication.
White's rule of sales still applies: If you want to sell twice as much, see twice as many qualified prospects.
40% of sales is what you are selling, 40% is who you are selling to and the other 20% is how you are selling it. You have to get over the idea that it is going to be effortless just because it's the Internet. Every day I hear people say, "I can't wait to get on the internet so I can start selling". Sorry for the soapbox speech.
Go to chat rooms, be a regular and give advice. Become an internet personality. What can you do to attract the qualified prospects or people you are looking for? You must have a goal other than just getting traffic.
Aren't salespersons taught to quickly qualify their prospect, make sure that there is a need for the product and to talk to the one who can make decisions? Buy banner advertising to attract those prospects.
Get over the idea that search engines are going to give you a lot of qualified prospects. Every web site in the world is after the same search engine positioning as you are. YOU must do something different. Spend your time on constructive endeavors like MARKETING your website.
Best way to get started
The best way to get started is by submitting your first web page. Don't worry about whether your page is ready for Excite. It doesn't have to be ready for this search engine. You can always change it later, and Excite will update itself anyway when it sends Architext the robot out again. They send him out often.
- Get behind the driver's seat of your browser and go to the web page you wish to submit.
- Copy the URL address from your browser's URL entry line.
- Go to the Web Site Marketing Chart!.
- Click on Add URL link for Excite.
- Paste your Home Page address into the entry box.
- Type in your email address.
- Press the Send button
Important
The reason you should copy and paste your URL address is simple. It's too easy to make a mistake typing your information into a search engine's entry form. In the wrong place, this mistake could cost you a year of bad placement. DO NOT think that this couldn't happen to you.
A great tool to use here is DropIt. BUY this tool for $10. It is shareware and you will be able to use it before you buy it. I don't make any money on this and I have never talked to these people, but I have used it daily for over a year. This little program will save you a lot of time typing information into all of those form boxes you find on web pages. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, they will be accurate.
Once you submit your URL, Excite will index it two weeks later. Excite asks that you submit only one URL (your top-most page). From there, Excite's robot will crawl through your site, indexing all related links. By indexing the full text of pages, there's no need to submit a list of keywords or descriptions because they are generated automatically.
When you change your site, it's not necessary to contact Excite; they will perform an automatic update (every two weeks). Excite's spider compiles the site summary by taking sentences that contain the dominant ideas/concepts of your home page directly from the page. Excite does not honor meta tags because they believe that this protects users from unreliable information. Now you know about Excite.
Self-serving ad for Zeus
