How to close your Window programs correctly . . .
Not for NT4 or Windows XP, 2000 users. Close your programs using your Task Manager

. . . before double-clicking any installation program.

You've read it a million times: "Close all programs before installing this program."

BUT they don't tell you enough!

Matched file sets on your computer, could become un-matched. This could happen anytime any program is installed, if programs are executing in memory. You won't even know as programs run silently in memory, sometimes with references to a Windows library file. Proper installation programs will not update files if they are referenced or in use. Some files are installed in sets and if one half of the set is missing, then you could have problems. If you follow the following instructions, for every program you install, then your computer could keep it's library files matched forever.

1.) Close all programs you know how to.

2.) Start Windows Explorer (Windows File Manager).

If you downloaded the file to a directory instead of your Desk Top this allows you later, to double-click the installation program and run it.

2.) Press CTRL-ALT-Delete once on your keyboard.

The Close Program window is displayed.

3.) The only programs that should now be executing are:

Explorer
(This is not really your Windows Explorer but another program)

systray

Exploring - <YourHardDriveName>
This is your Windows Explorer

4.) If not, then remove all programs except the 3 listed above.

step a) To remove a program running in memory, Click it's name in the list box, then click End Task button to remove it.
Be careful! DO NOT click the Shut Down button.

step b) Press CTRL-ALT-Delete again to select another to remove.
